NO STRESS ON CABO VERDE
GROGUE PRODUCTION ON SANTIAGO
No stress when it comes to the production of alcoholics. And if you wonder why there is so much sugar cane growing on Cabo Verde you now know the answer: nearly everything is used to produce grogue – which works well for Caipirinha.
ON THE WAY TO FAJA D’AGUA
There is a nice path down from Santiago’s mountains to the small village of Faja d’Agua. At about the half, in the middle of nowhere, we crossed some houses built around a fresh water spring – which is a kind of green oasis on an island with an average of two days of rain per year. These people seem to be really happy just living their life and growing everything they need, even without even having access to a road…
TARRAFAL BEACH
The small fishermen’s village Tarrafal is located up at the north coast of Santiago and we were lucky to spend at least one night there. Looking back at all the places we have seen, Tarrafal feels like the pure definition of »No stress on Cabo Verde«…
ON THE FERRY TO FOGO
Initially we were supposed to fly from Santiago to Fogo but as the volcano Pico Pequeno was still active, all flights had been cancelled so we took the ferry instead. This meant we had to spend 5+2 hours on a boat instead of a 30 minutes flight – but the sunset view on the Pico de Fogo was worth the delay.
STREETS OF SAO FILIPE
On the way to our favourite restaurant on Fogo, the »Tortuga Bay«, you pass by the typical architectural mix on Cabo Verde – old almost forgotten colonial buildings and new interpretations in all the colors you can imagine.
By the way, you can find the Tortuga Bay at the very end of the black lava beach – say hello to Roberto and enjoy his 3-course menues!
LIFE’S OUTSIDE
When I was a kid playing football with some friends and by accident we lost our ball in the neighbour’s garden or wherever, I remember how hard it was to convince the boy who shot that it would be his job to get back the ball – no matter if there is a fence, a wall or a barking dog. In Sao Filipe things are different. These boys lost the ball every two minutes but then it turned into a race who would be the fastest to climb up and cross the painted wall to get the ball back on the pitch…
I have create these four labels based on some photographs and details I have noticed on each of the islands. They work well as dividers and I will use them for the book project NO STRESS ON CABO VERDE…
